MECCA AT THE TIME OF THE PROPHET A CENTER OF GLOBAL TRADE
It is very important to understand that Mecca was a center of trade at the time of the prophet. Merchants in Mecca certainly spoke fluent Greek and were very familiar with Greek civilization. They also spoke fluent Persian and traded with the Persian Empire. Thus, Mecca was uniquely positioned to be a starting point for the greatest religious revolution in history. Ancient Alexandria would have been a familiar place to the merchants of Mecca. They also did business with the Sassanid Persian Empire, the other major super power to the north.
